We at Diamond M Boer Goats are striving to produce the very finest Boer goats we can. Through selective breeding with the best bucks available and breeding them to the finest does we can obtain. We want to, as well as our customers, be able to produce winners in the show ring as well as in the kidding pens. This page offers some of the methods, tips, and techniques that we have learned (some the hard way by trial & error)to improve our herd. This includes articles on Boer Goat illnesses and treatments, Boer Goat nutrition, and general information about our farm. If you have any questions or comments about any of the following articles, please feel free to contact us via the website. |
Bottle Feeding of Newborn Boer Goats
Babies need colostrum (or the equivalent) for a minimum of 24 hours after birth, and they need to ingest 10% of their body weight. If the mother has no milk or if the babies are not able to get colostrum from the mother, I highly recommend giving them Colostrix or any other colostrum substitute.

Common Foot Problems & Treatments
When we bought our first goats, hoof trimming was mentioned briefly. Basically we were told if the goats have rocks to walk on, their hooves wouldn't need to be trimmed very often. No one bothered to mention other foot problems we might face, i.e., foot scald and/or foot rot.
